Letter to Voters

Dear Voter:

My name is Abiodun Bello, and I am a candidate for the New York City Council in the 16th District.

As of 2010, the U.S. Census ranked District 16 as the poorest in our nation, with 49 percent of our children living in poverty.

For decades, District 16 has maintained its position among the poorest districts. District 16 is undoubtedly caught in a vicious cycle, and I believe the best way to find a solution to an old and persistent problem is to employ a fresh pair of eyes.

I would like to briefly tell you why I am the most qualified for this job.

First, I worked alongside City Council Member Erik Martin Dilan as a Community Liaison for over a decade. Therefore, I offer over a decade of on-the-job experience, and I can get right to work from day one.

Second, I have been an active advocate for education reform in various capacities, including as President of the Community Education Council, Treasurer of Citywide Council on High Schools, and Treasurer of Community School Board.

Third, a key feature of my candidacy that sets me apart from the other candidates, is my ground-breaking ideas for funding my projects. My funding ideas include a Business Giveback Community Building Project, where businesses pledge to donate at least $500 per year to help fund community education projects. In return, we will provide parents and other residents with a quarterly printed and televised list of these businesses who help their children, and encourage parents and other residents to support these businesses.

Additionally, my team will create a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that will engage in various types of business activities, and 100 percent of the profits will go toward funding our projects.

Despite a candidate’s plans and good intentions for making a difference, at the end of the day, back in the real world, there are limits on what he/she can achieve with constantly shrinking government funding and the bureaucracy involved in getting things done. That is why my ground-breaking ideas for funding my projects set me apart from the other candidates.

Programs like our Group Tutoring Program, an incentive-based program, will reward students for outstanding performance. We will also encourage enrollment by offering a chance to win prizes for signing up and attending the program for at least 30 days.

I would like your help in transforming District 16. Accordingly, I am requesting your endorsement and support, together with an ongoing partnership after my election.

I am confident that the ideas contained in this letter will make a huge impact in transforming District 16 to improve the standard of living for its residents.

As always, demand effective and inventive solutions that work for your family!

Best wishes to you, and thank you for taking the time to review this letter.

Yours respectfully,
Abiodun Bello
